Margaret married James Hampton.1

Margaret [-?-] was mentioned in the following event: Declaration of Ejectment: In a court case November 1761, John Denn complained of Richard Fenn. Solomon Boyle at Morris Town in Morris County on 2 September 1761 had demised to John Denn one messuage, 60 acres of arable land, 60 acres of meadow land, 60 acres of woodland and 60 acres of pasture lying in Morristown, now occupied by James Hampton. Richard Fenn entered the property on 3 September and took over the property with force and arms, ejecting John Denn from his farm. Denn wanted compensation. Fenn wanted James Hampton to remove himself from the property. Margaret Hampton was named as wife of James Hampton - this in March 1762.1

Margariet [-?-]1

Last Edited=28 Jul 2017
Her name would be pronounced to sound like 'Margareet' in Dutch. The diminutive 'Grietje' would sound like 'Gree-chuh' when spoken.

Margariet married Peter Simson 2 August 1650 (her name was given as Grietje in the record, a diminutive of Margariet in Dutch; Gravesend town records stated “Peter Simson August ye second was by publick authority married.”.)1,2,3

Grietje, Peter’s wife, resided in Gravesend in 1696.1

On 29 Dec 1696, a receipt of payment for property stated: Greetie Sympson, widow of Peter Sympson of Gravesend received payment from Reyneer Vansycklyn of Gravesend for one of two indentures made by Peter Sympson and Greetie his wife with Reyneer Vansycklyn on 2 May 1687. She signed with her mark. Witnesses were Nicholas Stillwell, Henry Fillsin, Jochem Gulick, John Lake (his mark X), Nicholas Stillwell Junr.4

The name “Margaret Simson” appeared on the census of Kings County (town of Gravesend) that was taken about 1698. There was only one female in the household. There was no (E) beside her name, which indicated she was Dutch; as noted elsewhere, many residents of Gravesend were English. There is no further mention of Margaret or Grietje in the records. Based on her given name and the census of 1698, Grietje was of Dutch origin.5

Mary [-?-] was born perhaps circa 1695.

Mary was married perhaps in 1715.

Charles R Hutchinson in his manuscript speculates that the Clutch/McClutch family was of Irish origin and was located in Burlington County as early as 1742. Based on marriage and birth information, I suggest that James McClutch (bef.1722 - c.1769) and Daniel McClutch (bef.1735 - 1764) are both of the same generation and are likely related. Further, Mary [-?-] (who first married Hugh McClutchy then married James Antrim/Antrum) is the mother of James based on baptism record of James. The fact that James Antrim and James McClutch both participated in the will of Thomas Branson, that they all lived in the same area of the Burlington Monthly Meeting, and that they were Quakers strongly suggests a family relationship.1

Mary married second James Antrum between 3 May 1725 and 7 June 1725 in Burlington Co, Province of New Jersey, (they were Quakers; Quaker calendar dates of 2nd month, 5th day; 3rd month, 3rd day; and 4th month, 7th day in record - the intended marriage was announced at the Burlington monthly meetings on 5 April and 3 May and the marriage was confirmed at the monthly meeting on 7 June.)2,3

Mary [-?-] was born circa 1742 in Province of New Jersey (based on marriage date.)1,2

Some family trees say this is Mary Hampton, daughter of Jonathan Hampton (1711-1777), but this is wrong - see the 1764 entry for her witnessing a deed.

Mary married first James Hampton, son of William Hampton, circa 1763.3

Mary [-?-] was mentioned in the following event: On 25 Aug 1764 James Hampton of Shrewsbury Township, Monmounth County, yeoman, conveyed to John Denman of Elizabeth Borough, Essex County, yeoman, that tract James Hampton bought from John Hampton in Shrewsbury Township on the south side of Shark River, adjacent to land of Joseph Flemman, being 100.75 acres. Mary Hampton was witness as well as Luis Phillips, She was the wife of Jonathan Riggs by 9 Sep 1771, when the document was approved.

This indenture is significant because of Mary's involvement - it's clear that the Mary who married Jonathan Riggs between 1764 and 1771 was the previous wife of James Hampton and her surname was not Hampton (unless she was a more distant cousin). Because Mary bore supposedly nine children with Jonathan and lived to 1851, she was young when married to James Hampton and he likely died young, shortly after the indenture in 1764.

Another possibility is that Mary who witnessed the indenture was not the wife of James Hampton but a sister or a cousin - this can't be ruled out solely on this record but I believe it more likely she was James's wife.3,4,5

Mary married second Jonathan Riggs circa 1765 likely in Province of New Jersey.1,2

Mary [-?-] died before 1830 ("his wife having died some years previous.")2

Rachel [-?-]

Rachel married William Hummer, son of Michael Hummer, circa 1780.1

Rachel entered a complaint for alimony and separate maintenance in Loudoun Chancery Court on 15 Nov 1806. The complaint, filed by James Coleman, was that she had married William Hummer about 1780 and they had, over the years, accumulated considerable real and personal property, and that because of intoxication, William had driven her from the home and sought protection from her neighbors. The court in Nov 1808 agreed to separate maintenance of $100/year paid quarterly in advance. By 13 Jan 1813, the court found that no payments had been made and further ordered William to make payments. This order was served on William 3 May 1813. There was no further record of either payment or divorce.1
