Genealogy Research of Ann Arnold Hennings
This section of the website contains some of the genealogy research of Ann Arnold Hennings who passed away October 2020 in Aurora, Colorado. Her mother, my aunt, Virginia Mae Stoy Arnold started the family research many years ago and Virginia's research was passed on to Ann. Virginia worked with Margaret Aminda Stoy McAllister and Anna Laura Sanford Stoy in the mid-twentieth century to develop the Stoy family history. These women inherited the photographs, Bibles and original papers of the family - this has all been scanned and many images are contained on this website (some have already been distributed to the Library of Virginia and othes will go to the Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg, Virginia and the King George County Historical Society in King George, Virginia). The distribution should be sometime in 2021 (completed mid-year).
Ann and I started working together in the late 1990s on our family history and we continued up until 2020. We traveled at least once a year on genealogy research trips (up to 2015), covering New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia - historical societies, genealogical societies, cemeteries, libraries, and archives. We found quite a bit and overcame a number of brick walls. These were fun trips.
I haven't developed Ann's Arnold and Hennings families in any detail and I haven't provided any source information - my main objective here is to record the photographs and documents that can't be found elsewhere. Ann created a database of her research (I believe she used PAF software but I haven't located it so far and that is not included here); however, I have added an ancestry tree to indicate the relationships of the various Arnold and Hennings families (see the following chart - click on it to enlarge, or click here to download a PDF file - use the pdf file for best results).
One of the significant items in Ann's research files was an old photo/document album that her mother, Virginia Stoy Arnold, organized. This album contains a number of photos dating to the late 1800s and continuing to the 1990s. Click on the thumbnail below to download a PDF file of the entire album - the Introduction contains a file and name listing of the contents.
There are several cemeteries that Ann and others visited while searching for family. They are:
Arnold Family Cemetery at Willow Hill - King George County, Virginia
This historic cemetery was the subject of much of Ann's genealogy work with multiple visits over the years. Ann's husband, Gerald Hennings, was buried here in 2013, the first burial since 1921 and Ann will be interred here later in 2021. Ann helped with the preservation of the site and provided for the memorial stone.
