A James Ferguson supposedly married Margaret Hampton, daughter of James Hamption and Margaret Kinnan/Canaan. In various family trees, James is listed as having been in the Revolutionary War and having immigrated to Colonial America about 1775, aged about 20. Several James Fergusons can be found in the Revolutionary War Rolls on Ancestry.com (see attached file for some details) but there are multiple entrants and its not at all clear which is the "right" James Ferguson, if any. Also, several James Fergusons (of various spellings) can be found in the immigration records - again, it's not clear which is the correct person (see attached file). There is no way any of the existing family trees are correct and none have listed source material (other than other family trees.)

James supposedly fought in the Revolutionary War but the existing records do not allow us to know which of the several/many James Fergusons is the "right" James, if any. See the attached file for some entries for one James.

His obituary stated: "Stanley William Finch was born in Monticello, New York on July 20, 1872. He attended Baker University in Kansas, the Corcoran Scientific School in Washington, DC, and business colleges in Albany and Washington, DC. In 1893, he accepted appointment as a clerk in the Department of Justice, where he worked off and on for 40 years. Mr Finch rose from the position of clerk to that of chief examiner between 1893 and 1908. While working in the Justice Department, Mr Finch earned an LLB degree (1908) and an LLM degree (1909) from the National University Law School. The Washington DC Bar admitted him to practice in 1911. As chief examiner, M. Finch advocated the creation of an investigative squad within the Justice Department, eventually becoming its first leader. Attorney General Bonaparte created a special agent force in the Department of Justice. Oversight of this newly organized force, later named the Bureau of Investigation (BOI), was assigned to Mr. Finch. In 1912, he left the BOI and was named special commissioner for the Suppression of White Slave Traffic. In 1913, he became a special assistant to the attorney general. From 1913 to the 1930s, Mr Finch alternated between private employment—primarily in the novelty manufacturing business—and positions in the Department of Justice. Mr Finch retired from the Department of Justice in 1940 and died in 1951."¹

Mr Firm was born January 11, 1934 in Toronto, Ohio, a son of William and Jane Morrow Firm. He was a 1952 graduate of Toronto High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954, until being honorably discharged in 1957. Mr Firm worked as a shipping superintendent for Ohio Ferro Alloy Corp of Brilliant, Ohio for over 20 years, until their closing. He then worked as a marine surveyor for both Metallurg Alloy Corp and retired from Shieldalloy Corp in Louisiana. After retiring, he moved to the Youngstown area in 1999. He was a member of Church of Christ in Struthers, where he served as a deacon. In his spare time, Mr Firm enjoyed reading, particularly western and military books. He leaves his wife, the former Martha 'Arline' Norris, whom he married June 9, 1956; three sons, Tim (Cathy) Firm of Rockford, IL, Scott Firm of Campbell, and Doug (Melissa) Firm of Campbell; five grandchildren, Sara, Kailey, Ryan, Kyle, and Jeremy Firm; brother, Carl 'Bud' (Mary) Firm of Toronto; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Trifanoff. . . ."¹

Jeremiah Fish, his descendants, and the Stoy family are intertwined in Gloucester County history. An excellent book on the Fish family was published in 1990 and I've copied pages relating to the Stoy family - see attached.³

The Orphan's Court of Gloucester County New Jersey granted Jeremiah guardianship of Rebecca and Elmiara Fish (under 14 years of age) in 1831.⁴

The family then embarked on extensive travel with the U.S. Air Force, Florida to Alaska to Alabama, New Hampshire and Arlington, VA where she graduated from Washington and Lee High School. Elsa made friends all over the world. She enrolled at the University of New Mexico where she pledged Chi Omega and was chosen Color Girl for the NROTC and the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. When the family was sent to Germany, she chose to leave school for the opportunities of extensive travel on a large scale. She worked at Headquarters at Ramstein Air Force Base. In 1957, the family was transplanted to Shaw AFB where she again worked for base commanders. In 1961, Elsa moved to Columbia, SC and worked many years for Hugh Weldon at SCE&G. Then in 1974, DuPont offered her the job of directing the start-up of their new plant in Goose Creek under Mgr. Ernie Bennett. She retired in October 1998. She was a member of Brevard Music Center for many years and enjoyed volunteer work for the arts in Charleston, SC. . . ."²
