Census

Census YearCensus Location
1850Washington Co, Tennessee1
Rebecca [-?-] was born between 1770 and 1780 in Province of North Carolina (now Tennessee.)2,3,1

Rebecca's age in the 1850 census is 64. Assuming she is the oldest female in the 1840 household of Hugh P Young, she was 60-70 in 1840. Assuming she was the female in the John Young household of the 1830 census, she was 50-60 in 1830. If the earlier censuses are correct then Rebecca was born 1770-1780. If the later census was correct she was born 1785-6. If the latter, then she was 13-14 when son Hugh was born - perhaps a bit young. The older birth date is more likely and Tennessee at the time was a part of North Carolina.2,3,1

Her surname may have been Patterson.4

Rebecca married John Young, son of John Young and Isabel Cunningham.5

Rebecca is undoubtedly the oldest female in Hugh P Young's household (age 60-70) in the 1840 census - she lived with him at the time of the 1850 census.3

She appeared on the 1850 federal census of Washington Co, Tennessee, in her parent's household.1

Rebecca [-?-] was born between 1790 and 1791.1

Rebecca married [-?-] Clutch circa 1810 (based on being at least 20 when married.)

Rebecca may have married Hugh Clutch but unsure at this time.

She appeared in multiple Philadephia city directories from 1823 to 1844, living first at a boarding house at the rear of 89 High Street, moving to 9 Harmony Court, and finally moving to 255 High Street, always noted as a widow. Neither she, nor a likely spouse, appeared before 1823, suggesting she had moved to Philadelphia about 1823 from, perhaps, New Jersey.

Rebecca [-?-] died 24 January 1844.1

Her obituary stated: "CLUTCH-Suddenly on the 24th inst, Rebecca Clutch in the 54th year of her age. Her friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend her funeral, from her late residence, No 255 market street, above Sixth, on Sunday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, without further notice."1

Sarah married John Rudd, son of Joseph Rudd and Elizabeth Wilmoth.1

Sarah [-?-] was named in the will of John Rudd as his wife and executor 28 April 1765 in Mecklenburg Co, Virginia Colony.2

Sarah [-?-] was mentioned in the following event: Securities were given by John Cox Sr and David Baugh for the probate of the estate of Joseph Rudd on 14 Jun 1779. The penalty was 50 pounds and Sarah Rudd was the representative of the estate.3

Sarah [-?-] was mentioned in the following event: The last will and testament of John Rudd was proven in Mecklenburg court on 14 Jul 1766. Sarah Rudd was one of the executors; security provided by John Cox and David Baugh.4

Sarah [-?-] was mentioned in the following event: A court order in Mecklenburg County, August 1767 stated "On the Petition of Patterson Pulliam and Wife Executrix of John Rudd Decd against Thomas Emoughty for Four pounds due by Account proved and not Appearing it is considered by the Court that the Petitioners recover against the said Defendant the said four Pounds and their Costs by him in this behalf Expended." Since Sarah Rudd, wife of John, was the executrix of his estate, it would seem that she has remarried to Palllerson Pullman in the year since John's death - unsure of this. See attached image.5
